On August 23, International Department, Central Committee of CPC organized 7 people from Joint Delegation of Parliament and Government of Papua New Guinea to visit MCC. Zhang Zhaoxiang, Party member and Deputy General Manager of China Minmetals, Secretary of Party Committee of China MCC and MCC, General Manager of MCC, welcomed a visit at MCC Headquarter in Beijing and talked with Peter Num, leader of the joint delegation as well as leader of One Nation Party of Papua New Guinea, senator and governor of the Eastern Highlands. The two sides held talks on matters related to the future development of the Ramu NiCo project and exchanged in-depth views.
Prior to the talks, the Joint Delegation of Parliament and Government of Papua New Guinea visited the exhibition hall of corporate culture in MCC, learned more about the history of MCC for more than 70 years, and highly praised the excellent development of MCC in the fields of iron and steel metallurgy, capital construction and emerging industries, etc..
During the talks, Zhang Zhaoxiang pointed out that MCC is the pioneer and main force of steel industry in China, providing comprehensive industrial chain services for almost all large domestic mines, such as survey, design, mining, mineral processing, smelting, trade, logistics, etc. and own international advanced mines and smelters in the world. Ramu NiCo project invested and constructed by MCC in Papua New Guinea, consists of mine, smelting plant and a 135km-long ore pulp running piping connecting the mine and the smelting plant. It was constructed with comprehensive efficient development and utilization technique of low-grade nickel laterite ore, which is a proprietary intellectual property right of the company. It is a comprehensive, world-class mining project combining mining, mineral separation, and smelting. It has become a typical engineering application case of nickel laterite ore whole-wet smelting technique, and greatly boosted local social and economic sustainability. Zhang Zhaoxiang said that local employees of Ramu NiCo project in Papua New Guinea conducted by MCC were provided with training on production technology, equipment operation, health and safety, etc. and targeted courses such as high-pressure acid leaching, countercurrent washing and maintenance for heavy equipment, etc., which provides professional talents for the safe and stable production of the project, and also lays a solid foundation for the company to implement localized management. In this way, highlight the firm determination of MCC to create a new paradigm for social responsibility in Chinese overseas projects. Zhang Zhaoxiang emphasized that in order to build the Ramu NiCo project into a world-class nickel laterite ore project, MCC decided to expand the capacity of the project and hoped that the Parliament and Government of Papua New Guinea and relevant departments would give strong support. MCC will give full play to its advantages in technology, talents and capital, and continue to contribute to the economic and social development of Papua New Guinea.
Peter Num said that through this visit, they have witnessed the earth-shaking changes that have taken place in China over the past 40 years. The country is prosperous and the people are living happily. They also understood that MCC has a unique technology and rich experience in the metal mining industry. Peter Num stressed that they will bring back the valuable experience to Papua New Guinea, submit a report to the government and the parliament, and strongly support the future construction and development of MCC in Papua New Guinea. He believes that MCC will be responsible for the successful capacity expansion of Ramu NiCo project.
